Have your say. What do you think is causing the steady climb of oil? from 50/barrel in 2007 Jan to 140 in June 2008. What's wrong with this picture, are we really in an oil crises? Is the 300% increase really necessary?

Some have asked what causes the spike in oil in just one day (to the extent we saw today)?

Well one way is speculation. Traders see a price of 150 expected for July which means there is a rush to oil futures with a lower prices. More people demanding futures will push the price higher.
